ZenMaster is a fast game of tactics with party-game elements and a bit of luck.
In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang represent two opposing forces within us. In ZenMaster, the player who best succeeds in balancing these two forces will be the winner.
Yin and yang. The white and the black. It's about balance.
First, you will play as many rounds per game as you have players (think: balance).
Next, the dealer deals 9 cards (think of it like the hand you are dealt in life) to each player. From these cards, each player gets to play only ONE card. The player who discards the highest card then receives as many black matches as indicated on the score card, and the player who discards the lowest card receives as many white matches as indicated on the same score card.
Now, set aside the played number cards and the used score card, and the next player deals nine cards to each player again. Turn over another score card and play just like the first round.
Because the object is balance, for each black match you collect, you can give it back if you have a corresponding white match. At the end of each round, give back the match pairs until you are left with only matches of a single color. This is how much the player is out of balance--at the end of the game, after every player has been the dealer once, the object is to have fewer matches than anyone else!
To win, keep calm, and seek balance!
